VMware Cloud Director™ service new region availability and Reference Architecture

VMware Cloud Director service hit the Initial Availability milestone in May, making the service available in the North America region. We are happy to announce additional regions are coming online to allow our partners around the world to start working with VMware Cloud Director service. We are also releasing a Reference Architecture to help providers understand how VMware Cloud Director service works with VMware Cloud on AWS to create multi-tenant environments for their customers.

New Regions for Cloud Director service in Early Access

Last week two new AWS regions were added for VMware Cloud Director service deployment–Frankfurt and Tokyo. This expands the service coverage to work with VMware Cloud on AWS SDDC instances in North America, EMEA and APJ regions, where the SDDC instance is less than 150ms round trip latency from the VMware Cloud Director service instance.

Early Access is a beta period where interested partners can get a jump start on their implementation and provide feedback on the service. Once early access is complete, these regions will join North America in Initial Availability. Initial Availability is a fully supported service that enables providers to broaden business opportunities with secure, flexible multi-tenant cloud resources for organizations of all sizes on VMware Cloud on AWS.

A new reference architecture has also been released that gives guidance to a VMware Cloud Director service Managed Service Provider desiring to run in an asset-light model. The solution demonstrates many of the networking requirements for providers and tenants including:

  • Provider & Tenant Connectivity
  • Internet & VPC Connectivity
  • NAT Rules
  • DNS for Tenants
  • Provider Infrastructure Workload
