Today it is with excitement that we announce the next release of VMware vCloud Availability for vCloud Director 2.0. VMware vCloud Availability is exclusively offered through the VMware Cloud Provider program, and enables Service Providers to build a high scalable Disaster Recovery offering to their existing and future customer base.
VMware vCloud Availability uses the tried and tested vSphere Replication technology that 1000’s of customers worldwide use every day for replicating and protecting their virtual infrastructure.
In this new release, we have some exiting new capabilities. We will dive into each of these features, but the full feature list is as follows:
- Five-minute Recovery Point Objective
- vSphere 6.5 Support
- Enhancements to Service Provider Portal
- Seamless upgrades
Five-minute Recovery Point Objective
With this release, the Recovery Point Objective (RPO) has been reduced to 5 minutes. By offering this capability, VMware vCloud Availability can now offer protection for tier 1 workloads. When used in conjunction with Multi Point in Time Recovery Snapshots (MPIT) this provides a true scalable Disaster Recovery solution for mission critical workloads.
vSphere 6.5 Support
VMware released vSphere 6.5 back in November 2016. As Service Providers have begun the upgrade path to this new release, vCloud Availability now has support for vSphere 6.5 within the provider data center.
Enhancements to Service Provider Portal
vCloud Availability provides a Service Provider User Interface for consumers to manage the workload replication. This new portal includes the ability to reconfigure replications to the new RPO settings, and monitor and manage all your Disaster Recovery virtual machines. Some of the enhancements contained in this release include performance improvements, and a new Tenant impersonation feature. This tenant impersonation feature allows a Service Provider to trouble shoot any issues in a simpler way by impersonating the customers environment.
