SUSE has a long history of open source commitment. From our products, to how we get work done, we abide by and believe in the power of open source software and principles. This means that it is perfectly aligned that SUSE has endorsed the UN’s Open Source Principles. The UN Open Source Principles promote transparency, collaboration, and reuse in digital development by encouraging the use and creation of open source software. These principles aim to foster innovation and ensure that digital solutions are accessible and adaptable across member states and partners.
We are proud to validate our open source commitment as early adopters of these principles, alongside 36 other organizations who have also endorsed this initiative from the UN’s Office of Information and Communications Technology. The announcement of our participation was also accompanied by the Republic of France’s endorsement – the first country to adopt the principles. We’re proud to be able to publicly commit to the open source principles that we hold true to the work we do. While the UN Open Source Principles focus on openness and collaboration, they also contribute to building the foundations of digital sovereignty by promoting interoperable, transparent, and adaptable digital solutions.
Why open source principles matter to SUSE
Endorsing the UN’s Open Source Principles was a natural step for SUSE, as they’re deeply aligned with our core values and the way we operate. Openness is fundamental to our identity, driving innovation, collaboration, and the delivery of reliable and adaptable solutions to our customers. These principles matter to us because they formalize the ideals we have long championed: fostering community-driven development, prioritizing security through transparency, ensuring interoperability, and empowering users with comprehensive documentation. By publicly committing to these principles alongside the UN and other like-minded organizations, we reinforce our dedication to a sustainable and inclusive open source ecosystem that benefits everyone.
